What’s on Collins Street?
Once you’ve ventured in and out of The George, what is the atmosphere on the prestigious Collins Street?
Marvellous Melbourne’s Past
Journeying along the ‘Golden Mile’ of Collins Street on Spring Street’s corner, you can experience 190 years of iconic places in Melbourne.
Revisit 190 years of iconic architecture, from the 1850s Gold Rush to the 1880s land boom, you can start from the Treasury at the eastern Paris end. Explore Melbourne’s commercial, spiritual and retail heart, including the Athenaeum Theatre close to The George.
Paris End of Melbourne
If you love food, fashion, and culture, visit East of Swanson Street, the Paris End of Melbourne! Named “Paris End” by journalist Keith Dunstan, he believed the area resembled the elegant boulevards of Paris.
Check our fashion boutiques like Chanel or Gucci, giant mural street art, chic cocktail bars, and lively clubs, or visit the Windsor Hotel, Treasury Building, or Flinder’s Land Street Art.
The George on Collins
Stylish and always with quality hospitality, the iconic George on Collins Heritage Building has represented an elite shopping experience since the 1880s, at the Paris End of Collins Street.
Originally built for the Equitable Co-operative Society in 1883 by brothers William and Arthur George, the “Georges” building in 1999 was transformed into a contemporary retail and commercial precinct for locals and visitors!
Today, The George is a high-end restaurant and boutique shopping as Melbourne CBD’s landmark, and your gateway to The George on Collins Asian-inspired restaurant.
